The Jewish calendar is based on both solar and lunar years. The average lunar year of about 354 days is adjusted to the solar year by the addition of a leap year and an intercalary month. Nisan is considered the first month, although the new year begins with Rosh Hashanah, on the first of Tishri, which is in fact the seventh month—the calendar has different starting points for different purposes. The year 2008 translates to the Jewish year 5768–5769. The year 2009 translates to the Jewish year 5769–5770.

Prince Al-Waleed signs on the dotted line to purchase his A380 at the Dubai air show
Inside the world's biggest private jet with 4-poster beds, Turkish bath... and a place to park the Rolls !
In a space normally given to 600 passengers, the owner and his guests will enjoy five-star treatment from the moment of arrival. After driving up to his plane, he will have the car parked in the onboard garage.
A lift drops to the tarmac and a red carpet unfurls, with downlights to 'give the impression of turning up at the Oscars', according to Design Q's co-founder Gary Doy. The belly of the A380 has been turned into a relaxation zone, including a Turkish bath lined with marble only two millimetres thick to keep the weight down.
Next door is a wellbeing room, with the floor and walls turned into a giant screen showing the ground down below. Guests can stand on a 'magic carpet' and watch the journey, a scented breeze blowing into the room.
If work reall...

1. The sunlight kills microbes. That's why it is important to put out in the sun carpets, blankets and eiderdowns that cannot be washed regularly. Exposure to the sun confers the skin a bright, healthy look and increased elasticity.
A moderately tanned skin is more resistant to infections and sun burning than an untanned one. Many skin diseases (dermatitis) can be
controlled and even cured through controlled exposure to the sun.
The sun rays are proven to strengthen the immune system.
2. Due to the sun our mood and morals improve. Sunlight helps in cases of chronic or acute depression, by stimulating the synthesis of endorphins (good-feeling hormones). That's why we get depressed in the cold and dark days of the winter.
3. The sun is good against insomnia. Daytime exposure to sunlight increases the melatonin production during the night. This hormone helps regulate the sleep.
4. Under the action of the sunlight, the skin synthesizes vitamin D, which makes possible calciu...

Betamax was developed by Sony in 1975, a year before the ultimately more popular VHS format was invented as a response to Sony’s attempt to control the format of the industry.

There's a whole lot of water on Earth! Something like 326,000,000,000,000,000,000 gallons (326 million trillion gallons) of the stuff (roughly 1,260,000,000,000,000,000,000 liters) can be found on our planet. This water is in a constant cycle where it evaporates from the ocean, travels through the air, rains down on the land and then flows back to the ocean.
The reason there is so much water is because the oceans are huge. About 70% of the planet is covered in ocean, and the average depth of the ocean is several thousand feet (about 1,000 meters). 98% of the water on the planet is in the oceans of the world, and therefore is unusable for drinking because of the salt. About 2% of the planet's water is fresh, but 1.6% of the planet's water is locked up in the polar ice caps and glaciers. Another 0.36% is found underground in aquifers and wells. Only about 0.036% of the planet's total water supply is found in lakes and rivers! That's still thousands of trillions of gallons, but ...

The following diagram and silhouettes were taken from a book called Good Posture in the Little Child, Bureau Publications No. 219, United States Department of Labour, Children's Bureau, 1933. The vertical red bars are my additions which indicate the distance which the back of the head overhangs the back of the shoulders. My own observations indicate that 4-5 year-old children show a head overhang that can be as much as 10 centimeters back of the shoulders. This overhang is normal and it is necessary for head balance upon the neck.
The four pictures below show a disturbing trend wherein the natural overhang of the head is erased gradually by the age of 12-15 years. Beyond the age of 15 years, the back of the head is forward of the back of the shoulders. The last (fourth) picture shows a forward lean of 5 centimeters. The head no longer balances upon the neck without the intervention of the posterior neck muscles. The verical red arrows show the position of the center of gravity of th...

The human breast is formed early in fetal life from an invagination of the ectoderm. During the fourth week, a raised area can be seen in the developing fetus. Near term, 15-25 ducts form the fetal breast. Male and female breast tissue develop in the same fashion. The withdrawal of maternal hormones can cause breast engorgement in the newborn. Shortly after birth, a neonate's breasts may produce a small amount of milk called "witches' milk." Study of this neonatal milk shows that it greatly resembles the components of mother's milk (Pittard 294-298). Production in the neonatal breast quickly subsides and the glands become the mammary disk of childhood. "The human mammary gland is the only organ that is not fully developed at birth (Lawrence and Lawrence 35)." The mammary glands will remain inactive until puberty.
Organogenesis begins just before the onset of puberty in the female (age 10 or 12). The internal breast structures begin to expand rapidly under the influence of estrogen. Ty...

Mouth
The mouth is where digestion begins and is formed by the hard and soft palates above, by the closed lips infront and by the buccinators (muscles of the cheeks) and mucosa of the cheeks to the sides. The tongue and teeth are contained within the mouth; the tongue forms its floor, and the teeth form two archs along the front and sides of the mouth deep to the lips and cheeks.
The hard palate is formed by the palatine and maxillae bones. The maxilla houses the upper teeth, whilst the lower teeth are held in the mandible. The soft palate is muscular and hangs from the back of the hard palate, separating the mouth and pharynx. From either side of the soft palate the palatoglossal and palatopharyngeal folds run downwards, the palatine tonsils lie in between.
Function
Within the digestive system the mouth functions to take in the food (ingest), taste and sense the texture and temperature of food, hold and manipulate the food under the teeth, facilitate chewing (mechanical digestion...

Perhaps we shouldn’t be too surprised by the content of this list, after all, there are ten people that absolutely did not deserve the prize they got. This list looks at ten people who should absolutely have won a nobel prize for their contribution to writing. Be sure to check out the other list after you read this one.

Jorge Luis Borges
1899-1986
Borges had a good twenty years to be considered for a Nobel, and was hot in the running for one for many of those years, but the Nobel Committee refused to award it to him because of his support for right-wing dictators like Pinochet. Sounds like someone he shouldn’t have supported, but the Committee routinely awarded the prize to writers who supported left-wing dictators like Joseph Stalin. Pinochet was worse than Stalin?
Borges wrote the finest surreal literature to date, and won the first International Pulitzer Prize. Politics seems a bad subject on which to argue.

Most of my weekends will include me baking an yeasted bread. Weekends are meant to be relaxing and baking such breads are so therapeutic and unwinding for me from all those hectic weekdays. I keep the quick breads for the weekdays in case I get the baking bug. Anyways one such weekend found me baking this utterly beautiful and delicious Swiss white bread. Zopftranslates to braid and this is exactly what this bread is all about. White flour, butter, eggs and yeast constitute the bread - There is nothing about this which you cannot like and this recipe which I noted from 'God knows where' has been my friend for last 2 years. It comes out perfect every time I make and tastes like your local professional baker's bread.
For me nothing beats out the feeling of having some beautiful breakfast - Some fruits, fresh beautiful looking breads and some tea is my kind of royal breakfast.Any bread goes - be it wheat, rye or sourdough. I resort to whole grains most of the time, but on rare case...

Most people think that air conditioners lower the temperature in their homes simply by pumping cool air in. What's really happening is the warm air from your house is being removed and cycled back in as cooler air. This cycle continues until your thermostat reaches the desired temperature.
An air conditioner is basically a refrigerator without the insulated box. It uses the evaporation of a refrigerant, like Freon, to provide cooling. The mechanics of the Freon evaporation cycle are the same in a refrigerator as in an air conditioner. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary Online, the term Freon is generically "used for any of various nonflammable fluorocarbons used as refrigerants and as propellants for aerosols."
This is how the evaporation cycle in an air conditioner works:
The compressor compresses cool Freon gas, causing it to become hot, high-pressure Freon gas (red in the diagram).
This hot gas runs through a set of coils so it can dissipate its ...

Meaning
Supposedly the last words of Julius Caesar. Literally 'And you, Brutus?'.
Origin
In 44 BC, Julius Caesar was murdered by a group of senators. They were led by Marcus Brutus, who had previously been a close friend of Caesar. There's no substantiated evidence to show that Julius Caesar spoke those words. They come to us via Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar which, like many of his history plays, tends to massage historical record somewhat for dramatic effect. In the play Caesar begins to resist the attack but resigns himself to his fate when he sees that his friend is amongst the plotters:
Caesar: Doth not Brutus bootless kneel?
Casca: Speak, hands, for me! [They stab Caesar.]
Caesar: Et tu, Brute? Then fall, Caesar! [Dies.]

suitcase-organizing
The bag is essential on a trip, but can become a nuisance when stowed without criteria. There are some tricks that help in choosing the belongings and arrange them in space compartmentalized, which often seems to be insufficient:
Separate objects is obligatory – glasses, contact lenses, medicine and toothbrush and toothpaste – and put them in a suitcase, along with walkways, a change of clothes for contingencies, camera and valuables;
Pack liquids in plastic bags. Save space by using small containers for shampoos, conditioners, perfumes. This care prevents clothes are stained in case of leaks;
Choose versatile clothing that can be used day or night, allowing combinations;
Choose a bag with wheels. At the end of the journey, when the mail will certainly be heavier, they will make a difference.
Separation of belonging, it is time to organize them in a suitcase.
Pack socks and underwear in a bag of fabric or cloth and place them inside shoe...

53-year-old Sergei Bobkov has patented a unique technique of creating amazing sculptures out of Siberian cedar wood-chips. It’s not very interesting to do what others can. To create something out of nothing in a completely new way is far more inspiring”. This is how Sergei Bobkov explains the unique form of art that he created. He says many people compare his artworks to taxidermy, because they both look so much like the animals they replicate, but Sergei believes they are as different as light and darkness. Whereas taxidermy is all about death, his wood-chip art symbolizes life. This resident of Kozhany, Russia, has developed his very own technique, that prevents wood-chips from falling apart, in time. After creating about 100-150 chips, from 2-3 inch long cedar stick, he puts them in water for several days. Then, making use of his surgical precision, he carves the chips into any shape he needs. Sergey has been doing this for some time now, but he has only created 11 wood-chip sculpt...
